Responsibilities:
Execute scientific and business strategies while managing multiple research plans to deliver clients’ objectives.
Partners with clients to positively impact project objectives and Aragen's revenue.
Develops and sustains business practices that support projects and improves efficiency.
Develops a strong and compelling vision for new technology/processes to support long-term business growth.
Communicates technical details of projects to others. Leads functional/technical member of the project with frequent interaction with colleagues and external partners.
Coaches the group by influencing and inspiring scientists, and maintaining a culture that encourages inclusiveness, innovation, scientific rigor, and growth opportunities.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Execute multiple and concurrent protein expression projects to enable clients’ R&D activities. Productions will utilize several platforms, including microbial, baculovirus, transient Expi293, ExpiCHO, and stable CHO expression.
Design and execute process improvements including, but not limited to, vector design, automation, and cell line engineering.
Extensive hands-on experience in the optimization and execution of protein purification of recombinant proteins and antibodies using various chromatographic platforms such as AKTA, Waters and Agilent High-Performance Liquid Chromatographs (HPLC’s).
Biophysical characterization using various biophysical and spectroscopy methods like cIEF, DLS, CE-SDS, SEC-MALS, LC/MS, Octet etc. for quantifying proteins, assessing protein quality, stability, and protein-protein interactions.
Demonstrate a track record of initiative, creativity, organization and independent performance with attention to detail and adherence to timelines/deliverables, and documentation.
Participate on project teams to optimize and produce proteins and collaborate with internal and external team members.
Manage internal and external partner relations through project leadership and clear communication.
Coach and guide staff on scientific concepts and technical details of various biopharmaceutical methodologies. Play a major role in developing and maintaining a culture that is innovative, encourages risk, and supports the development of its people.
Required Educational Qualification & Relevant experience
Typically, Associate Scientific Director candidates will have a PhD degree (or equivalent) with 6-12 years of business experience
( or)
3-5 years of business experience at the Principal Research Scientist level, or equivalent training/experience. Scientific Director will have 15-20 years post-PhD experience.
Strong scientific background and experience in biopharmaceuticals preferably a subject matter expert in purification and downstream process development.
Demonstrated competence for team leadership, people management and project management.
Excellent communication skills with demonstrated client-facing interactions.
Broad and strong network in the industry and biotech.
Previous CRO and/or CDMO experience preferred.
